Postcards from a Burning Bridge + California Southern: in conversation
at the intersection of poetry and journalism as practices for processing life
Please join us for an evening of poetry and dialogue with writers from The Los Angeles Press introducing Sara Harris Ben-Ari and Adolfo Guzman-Lopez: the long-time, long-form radio journalism collaborators read from their newly published respective poetry monographs, engaging the audience in conversation about the art of listening and non-fiction.
Sara Harris Ben-Ari is an award-winning radio journalist, Master Gardener + California Climate Steward, visual artist, and community activist. She lives with a rotating menagerie of rescue plants and animals at her home in Southern California. Her first book of poetry Postcards from a Burning Bridge is a production of The Los Angeles Press.
Adolfo Guzman-Lopez is a poet and journalist. He grew up in Tijuana, National City, and Pacific Beach. In 1994 he co-founded the Taco Shop Poets. He’s currently a reporter at LAist 89.3. His true crime podcast The Forgotten Revolutionary for LAist Studios won the Golden Mic award. He lives in Long Beach. His most recent book of poetry is California Southern, writing from the road, 1992-2025, a production of Hinchas Press.

New partnership announcement!
The Huntington Gardens Experimental Ranch hosts The Los Angeles Press and Planet Earth Observatory’s Visiting Poet Program — a micro residency for an emerging local poet ages 18-25.
Do you know a fantastic local poet (Pasadena, San Marino, Altadena, San Gabriel) who wants to write, cultivate, and learn from master gardeners and writers!? The Micro Residency will entail working with native plants, and will ask questions surrounding sustainability, food access, and environmental justice. There is a $500 stipend and a publishing contract.
